A note for September from Hiltingbury Interiors

And just like that, it's September!

What a summer it's been! While I'm not quite ready for cosy autumn knits, the sunny days of flip-flops are certainly behind us. I'm excited to be back in the studio, recharged and ready to dive into our upcoming projects.

This August my family and I enjoyed a wonderful holiday in Bali - soaking up the culture and cuisine, whilst gaining some much needed rest. It’s been 20 years since my last visit, and while it’s definitely busier now, the serenity, landscapes, and warmth of the people reminded me why it’s one of my favourite places on earth.

Making souvenirs stick

Bali is full of rustic charm and I was constantly inspired by the different colours and textures. I came home with a few carefully chosen pieces now available in the studio, so pop in for a browse! That said, holiday buys can be tricky and I’m always mindful of what to bring back. Sometimes a colour that glows under a tropical Caribbean sun or Mediterranean sky may look muted in the softer UK light. Likewise, bold statement pieces can risk throwing off the balance and aesthetic of a room - we've all had that “what was I thinking?” moment with a holiday buy!

Still, sometimes it's the most unexpected purchases that stand the test of time. Case in point: a 7ft wooden statue I brought home from Bali two decades ago, as even though he doesn’t match my design scheme, I couldn’t imagine my living room without him!

Coffee, cake, community

Later this month we are looking forward to hosting our Macmillan Coffee Morning, which holds a deeper meaning for us this year. Just two weeks after last year’s event, our wonderful project manager Alison was diagnosed with breast cancer. Throughout surgeries, radiotherapy and drug therapies, Ali showed extraordinary strength - continuing to work and inspiring us all. We’re thrilled she’s now through the other side and embracing life to the fullest. She has kindly agreed to help me host this year and is happy to chat with anyone who’d like to hear her story.

We’re also grateful to Stem and Green for once again donating flowers, which we’ll arrange into small, gorgeous bouquets. These can be collected in return for a donation, and if you know you’d like to buy an arrangement or two please do let me know in advance.

On the day, expect the return of our popular “paint chip” raffle, an abundance of cakes and coffee, and a 10% donation from all home and gift purchases made in the studio. Our neighbour Caroline at CB Boutique is also joining in with a 10% donation from her sales on the day too.

We feel so lucky to be part of such a supportive community, and we’d love to see as many of you as possible to try and beat last year's total.

What's new in the studio

I’m excited to share some beautiful new arrivals! The Linwood Maru collection has just landed - a stunning range of printed linens inspired by nature. The soft, earthy colourways are perfect for creating calm interiors, whereas the bolder, contemporary versions can help create a sense of drama. It is a wonderfully versatile collection which I can’t wait to use!

Another exciting arrival in the studio is the William Morris At Home wallpaper collection from Graham & Brown, a beautiful celebration of the iconic designer’s work. With privileged access to the William Morris Gallery archives, the collection reimagines his timeless prints with a modern touch that continues his legacy of stunning designs.

And finally - we’re currently obsessed over terrazzo tiles. The mix of multi-tonal chips, which form perfectly imperfect organic patterns, add an instant Italian elegance to kitchen and bathrooms. Brands such as Claybrook and Ca’Pietra are stocking designs of timeless charm that can be subtle way of making a statement, and we simply can't get enough.

We can’t wait to see many of you in the studio soon - whether for a coffee, a browse, or a catch up!

With love
