This was our second project with the Collet family, following the design and rebrand of their farm shop a few years ago. We loved working again with a family business so passionate about supporting local produce and serving their community.

This project involved transforming a listed building in Winchester, which required careful consideration and organisation to meet planning permission and city council restrictions.

We focused on creating spaces designed for long-term use, ensuring they could handle high foot traffic and mitigate potential flooding risks (unfortunately a consideration in this part of Winchester High Street). The goal was to create an immersive environment that was both practical and beautiful.

In their previous project we designed a colour scheme fit for a rural farm shop, so our aim here was to tell the same “field to plate” story, but ensure it worked in a city centre setting. Time was spent perfecting the floor plan as this retail unit is on varying levels and made up of four different rooms. The space needed to accommodate multiple product zones for different sections of the farm shop offering. From fresh produce, to a bakery, the butchers, frozen goods and a take-out coffee station, we maximised both space and sales potential while ensuring there was a good cohesion between each area.

Wall graphics were added to tell the farming story and convey the history and ethos of the Collett family. Window graphics, staff uniforms and packaging were added to tie in with the distinctive look and feel we’d implemented at the original rural farm shop in Wickham. All helping to grow the Westlands brand in Hampshire.
